Wise Saying #23:
“Whoever plans to do evil will be called a schemer. The devising of folly is sin, and the scoffer is an abomination to mankind.” (24:8-9)
“For as [a man] thinks in his heart, so is he” (23:7a KJV). Therefore, those who premeditate evil and sin in their hearts soon gain a reputation as trouble makers. For the heart cannot contain the wickedness devised there in, thus, when sin is conceived it will give birth to action (cf. James 1:15). Resulting, not only in spiritual death, but also the loss of a good name, while incurring the scorn of others; all of which are no small penalty (cf. 21:24; 22:1; Ecclesiastes 7:1). So today, tremble before the holy Lord, bringing even the secret thoughts of your heart under His control. “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2). “Whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” (Philippians 4:8). By so doing, the Lord will take your thoughts captive and bless you with a good name and favor among people (cf. 16:21).
