Wise Saying #10:
“Do not move an ancient landmark or enter the fields of the fatherless, for their Redeemer is strong; he will plead their cause against you.” (23:10-11)
No matter the time or the society, there have been and will always be those who are unable to defend themselves. Today’s saying envisages such a situation. The Wiseman warns against moving “an ancient landmark” or property boundary in an attempt to maliciously seize the land of the defenseless orphan. In other words, he warns against taking advantage of the vulnerable, weak and helpless. The reason being is that God will leap to their defense as their next-of-kin redeemer (cf. Leviticus 25:25-35; Psalm 68:5); guarantying that the oppressor will be punished. Remember friends, God rewards those who practice the “pure and undefiled” religion of helping the weak (cf. James 1:27) but He is against those who abuse them. So today, help the less fortunate least God be against you and if God is against you, who can stand?
