Jesus has a question for you,
“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?” (Luke 12:25)
According to Jesus, if we, by worrying, can’t do something as simple as add a single hour to the span of life then why worry about life at all? Worry is pointless because it can’t meet any of our needs; worry is foolish because instead of improving our circumstances it simply worsens them; worry is faithless because it denies the Creator of the universe loves us and knows what we need. Our Father promises to meet all our real needs, but not necessarily all our desires and that’s where we get confused. Worry and anxiety are not the answer to the issues of life, especially over which we have no control… faith is the answer. Oh Lord, calm our anxious hearts. Help our unbelief. Increase our faith. Amen.

This week’s theme: Jesus Has A Question For You:
Love Your Enemies Like God Loves You
Why We Must First Confront Our Own Sins
Brother, I needed to hear that…..makes you think twice about worrying and being anxious. Thanks for all you do!!!
My pleasure.
Now a question for you. How do you harmonize this teaching with Philippians 2:20?
God question Edwin. I usually explain it this way: It’s okay and proper to worry about people, but it’s not okay to worry about stuff.
On several occasion in the New Testament being “anxious” over people is commended: 1 Corinthians 7:32-34; 12:25; 2 Corinthians 11:28; Philippians 2:20 (“care” is the same word translated “anxious” elsewhere.) To be “anxious” for people is to show deep love and concern.
However, being “anxious” over stuff and situation is not kosher with God: Matthew 6:25, 34; Philippians 4:6; 1 Peter 5:7. To be “anxious” over stuff and situations demonstrates a lack of faith that God will provide.
So, as you see this teaching from Luke 12 is in perfect harmony with the New Testament’s teaching on anxiety.
