Jesus has a question for you,
“If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.” (Luke 6:32)
It’s a basic human instinct for a person to look after those in their inner-circle. Thus, the world’s way is to love only those who love them, or do good only to those who do good to them. However, our Lord desires believers to rise above such carnal thinking and embrace His higher ethic, “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.” These words of our Lord are indeed difficult and perplexing; but in so doing, the disciple of Christ exhibits the amazing love of God, who “Is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.” What love! Thank God there is no tit-for-tat in Him. Therefore, there should be no tit-for-tat in our love either. Oh Lord, there is no benefit in only loving those who love us. So please, I pray, make us like You. Amen.
